It's not rare, but it's real

this feeling.
It's not WHY I love you
because having a reason

because no matter
the situation

I LOVE you.
It won't be WHEN I love you
because a date or time stamp
is insignificant
as a higher power
has taken over
our lives with LOVE.

What I wish for is not what I want
yet I stand with failing breath
inhaling and exhaling
I sense the tides of my ancestors
and hope that my future is not baited
and that my optimism
remains through the tough times
YES I know that the road is
curved, expansive and turmoiled
but I will keep the faith
because what I wish for
is not what I want or need

hands in my pocket
my fingers on my pen
my knuckles rap on doors
and my arms extend

to give a little
to defend the masses
